The only Australian Prime Minister to leave office at a time of his or her own choosing was Robert (Bob) Gordon Menzies, who retired 26th January 1966 after serving a combined total of 18 years over 2 terms. All others were either removed by a general election, their party replaced them or they died in office. He was also the longest serving Australian Prime Minister.
