When it comes to homosexuality many people will argue it’s not the natural way. Many more will attempt to point out that that it’s only the domain of people. How wrong are they. In fact, male bats exhibit the highest rate of homosexuality among mammals.
It’s not exactly rocket science to understand that animals engage in homosexual acts. Neither do we really need a study by members of the scientific community to point it out or conduct studies. But where they do come in handy is to highlight exactly which animal is the most homo-sexually active. It’s not exactly a precise science, but many professionals agree that the male bat has the highest rate of homosexuality of all mammals.
How do we know male bats have the highest rate of homosexuality of all mammals?
I suppose we can thank one very bored researcher. Researcher and author Bruce Bagemihl conducted research on this exact subject and released his findings in his book, Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity. What you may be surprised to learn is the number of animals that engage in homosexual behavior. Up to 1500 animals can be observed displaying the characteristics, while 500 have been well documented. But when we say that these animals engage in gay behavior it doesn’t imply that it contains any sexual activity. Just that they show the traits.
Other animals that closely follow the male bat in homosexuality ar the giraffe, lion, buffalo and bear, just to name a few. Perhaps this is another reason people thought Batman was gay, so introduced Batwoman.
