Well oh la la. Did you know that Tupac Shakur was a ballet dancer? Well, it’s actually true, and would probably come as a surprise to a lot of people, especially considering his career path, confrontations with the law, and his untimely violent death.
Now Tupac Shakup being a ballet dancer is obviously surprising. The late musician was a well known rapper during the late 80’s and early 90’s. He also had several run ins with the law, including a sexual assault charge that resulted in his conviction and incarceration, and the unfortunate shooting death of a six year old child. Tupac was never convicted of this death, even though the bullet was traced to his pistol, due to a lack of witnesses. He was however successfully sued for wrongful death. He was a pretty tough cookie to deal with, which makes this fact so fascinating. Ballet isn’t often associated with tough nuts, if anything most people regard it as rather prancy and effeminate.
Tupac was born in 1971 to parents who were active members of the Black Panther movement. In high school he was regarded as one of the most popular students, partly due to his superior rapping skills, and also because he was able to mix with just about any crowd. When he completed school he enrolled in the Baltimore School of Arts. Of the many subjects he studied, ballet was one of them. He even performed in the role of the Mouse King in the ballet, The Nutcracker.
