The first movie Sylvester Stallone starred in was a softcore Adult movie called “The Party at Kitty and Stud’s.” We kid you not, this was indeed the first movie Sylvester Stallone starred in. But given his huge success, blockbuster appeal, and often questionable talent, why would he ever consider starring in an adult movie?

Oh alas, things have not always been the way they are today for the action star. As with many hopefuls today, there was a time before he shot to international stardom that he was a down and out struggling actor wannabe. He was yet to be discovered, and getting by was difficult. Even keeping a solid roof over his head was hard, and the turned out to be the catalyst for his first ever starring role in a film.

The Party at Kitty and Stud’s was a softcore adult film produced in 1970. It was about a couple, a woman named Kitty and Stallone’s part, Stud. As with all Adult flicks the plot was thin and eventually ended in a free for all with Stud having sex with all of the female members.

At the time the movie was made, Stallone was still a young man of just 23 years of age. At that age an opportunity to be paid to have sex would have been appealing, the sort of opportunity any red-blooded young man would seriously consider, but that’s not the reason that he took the part. He wasn’t after sex, or a short-lived Adult career. In fact, he wasn’t even after a prolonged professional career at that time. He was desperate for money.

Just before the role came up in The Party at Kitty and Stud’s, Stallone had been evicted from his apartment in New York and was living in a bus station. He had been in that predicament for a few days when the opportunity arose. He had the choice of either taking the role and getting some honest cash, or rob someone. Being an honest man, he took the role and was paid $200 for two days work.

It was either do that movie or rob someone because I was at the end – at the very end – of my rope. Instead of doing something desperate, I worked two days for $200 and got myself out of the bus station

Six years after the Adult flicks release Sylvester Stallone hit the big time in possibly the best way possible. Writing and starring in Rocky, he catapulted himself into superstardom almost overnight. He was nominated for two Academy Awards for Rocky, Best Actor and Best Original Screenplay. The producers of the softcore film were delighted with his success, because it spelled bonus sales of the first movie Sylvester Stallone starred in. They edited the movie and re-released it as The Italian Stallion.

Today it doesn’t matter what Stallone did forty years ago. In his own words, the movie would almost be rated pg by todays standards.
