los angeles short form

Los Angeles short form can be reduced to a mere fraction of its long form. To be absolutely precise, Los Angeles short form is only 3.63 percent of the full name, and it’s all thanks to acronyms.

Everywhere you look today you can see an acronym. They’re on television, in magazines and newspapers, online and even on the radio. They’re the perfect answer for the lazy typist. Type the full name or word just once with the acronym behind it and then you can just type the shorter version every time it’s mentioned. With large or complex words it can prove to be a real time saver, but sometimes you have to wonder why it gets used at all. Take people using the abbreviated version of Facebook for example. A lot of people will just type FB, or even say “FB.” It’s really not necessary. But Los Angeles is one place name that needs to be shortened. And boy did it get shortened with the acronym.

Here’s a tongue twister for a very famous place and it’s probably the reason it was shortened. Los Angeles’s full name is El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula and can be shortened to 3.63% of its size. All the way down to just LA. In all fairness it probably should have been abbreviated to EPDNSRDLAP, but that sounds even more confusing.

The reason LA is named in Spanish is because when the city was established, California was a Spanish territory. California and the city of Los Angeles became US following the Mexican American war of 1846 to 1848.
