South Park is a popular adult cartoon made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. It is set in the real town of South Park Colorado. The show focuses its attention on a group of young boys who seem to get into all kinds of trouble, yet all survive, except one of them. The show has four main characters. They are Kyle Broflovski, Stan Marsh, Eric Cartman, and Kenny McCormick. It has been a running joke throughout the seasons that the “poor kid”, Kenny dies in every episode. They did toy with the idea of killing off another main character, but decided in the end to keep that character in the show. So who was it?
During season five the creators, Parker and Stone, played with the idea of killing off Kyle Broflovski . They had several reasons for doing so. They felt that Kyle Broflovski was too similar to Stan Marsh and that it would genuinely surprise the shows fans. They also reasoned that it would allow for the new character, Butters Scotch, to gain a more prominent role. To add to these reasons, they were becoming tired of upholding the tradition of killing Kenny in every episode.
In the end they decided to kill off Kenny, this time for good. Kenny was absent from the show for a year until he returned in the season six finale, Red Sleigh Down. Kenny has remained in the show ever since.
